Disability Discrimination Act

Conference
Police Staff Conference 2004
Date
1 March 2004
Decision
Carried

Conference welcomes the inclusion of our police colleagues within the Disability Discrimination Act, therefore dismantling another barrier within the Police Service.

Conference is concerned about the effect this will have on police staff roles, responsibilities, development, job evaluation and the roll-out of the Civilianisation Programme.

Conference is further concerned that there will be a disparity between police officers and police staff who are redeployed due to a disability. At present there is no protection of police staff grades or allowances, yet police officers are redeployed without any effect on their pay.

Conference instructs the Service Group Executive to:

1)obtain confirmation from the Home Office that our roles, responsibilities, career development, job evaluation and civilianisation programme will not be affected;

2)enter into consultation with employers at PSC level to redress the disparity of the redeployment issue;

3)issue advice and guidance to police branches on these issues.
