Conference welcomes the gains made by UNISON towards winning equality for lesbian and gay workers organised within the local government service group and in the provision of local government services which recognise and meet the needs of lesbian and gay service users.
However, Conference acknowledges that there is still much to be done and that little has been done to date to address the needs of bisexual and transgender workers within the local government service group, although evidence from a survey of local government by the lesbian and gay self-organised group suggests that this is beginning to change in respect of service delivery.
Conference therefore instructs the Local Government Service Group Executive to work with the self-organised group to promote an inclusive lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) equalities agenda, without losing clarity over the distinct issues facing each of these groups, or the diversity of the LGBT communities.
