Conference welcomes the increased opportunities in certain areas for existing staff to undertake Nurse Training as part of a secondment opportunity. This Conference believes that by utilising the skills and experience of existing health workers all of the NHS will benefit with increased recruitment and importantly retention of Nursing Staff.

This Conference however notes with concern the rise of Trusts offering secondment opportunities at the first incremental nursing rate, which means that many staff suffer financial detriment as a result.

This Conference resolves to:

1.Campaign that all staff undertake student training as a secondee should not suffer any financial detriment and should be seconded at full pay;

2.Advertise the fact that it has been UNISON at the forefront of the campaign to offer secondment opportunities to existing health service workers;

3.Encourage Trusts to recruit secondment places from all health occupations in order to assist retention of nursing staff and in recognition of the skills that all health workers have.
