2004 Health Care Service Group Conference
5 January 2004

This Conference notes:

1.The successful regrading campaign for Health Care Assistants undertaken by Newcastle City Health UNISON;

2.This has involved updating the B Grade job description to take into account the changes and the development in roles of HCA’s since the grading structure came into being in 1998;

3.The campaign has involved HCA’s themselves re-evaluating their current roles and being fully involved in the process;

4.This campaign is in line with UNISON’s commitment to seek fairness and recognition for HCAs as an integral part of the health care team;

5.That the majority of HCAs in adult forensic and special care services have now been upgraded with their upgrading backdated to November 2001.

This Conference resolves to:

a. Circulate to all relevant branches the details of the Newcastle City Health campaign;

b.To encourage and support branches to submit regrading claims on behalf of HCAs.
