V-Day is an international movement to stop violence against women and children. It has proclaimed Valentine’s Day as V-Day until the violence stops.
V-Day raises funds and awareness for anti-violence charities throughout the world through its benefit performances of the Vagina Monologues, Eve Ensler’s hilarious eye-opening tour of the last frontier, the forbidden zone at the heart of every woman.
Conference congratulates UNISON on its decision to sponsor a production of the Vagina Monologues at the Labour Party Conference in September to launch the 2003 V-Day Campaign. It was a huge success and UNISON got a lot of positive publicity from this event. It also raised funds for anti-violence charities and raised awareness about the outrage of violence against women. Many delegates present signed up with V-Day to perform the Monologues in their own community, workplace or union event to raise awareness.
We note that this UNISON National Women’s Conference will be taking place on V-Day 2003. Conference therefore takes this opportunity to reaffirm our support for V-Day and its campaign against violence against women and children. Conference calls on the National Women’s Committee to encourage UNISON’s National Executive Council to give further financial support to the work of V-Day.
