Term Time Workers

Conference
2003 National Women's Conference
Date
24 October 2002
Decision
Carried

The National Women’s Committee welcomes the work that UNISON has done on highlighting particular issues affecting term time workers and their employment status and the campaign for improvements in their terms and conditions of employment. The rights of term time workers are often inferior due to qualifying periods based on weeks worked and diluted annualised wages, and they can no longer claim Job Seekers Allowance during their so-called breaks in employment during the school holidays. The majority of term time workers are women and one area of particular concern is with regard to maternity and parental rights.

Conference calls on the National Women’s Committee to support and publicise UNISON’s campaign for fair treatment for term time workers. It also calls on the National Women’s Committee to work with service groups and the Maternity Alliance to ensure term time workers know their rights with regard to maternity and parental rights.
