These days menstruation can start from as early as 11 years and last well until the mid-fifties. For most women menstruation is natural and is the process which we must endure in order to keep humanity alive ensuring civilisation continues.
Yet the question has to be asked “If it is the fundamental role of women to ensure that the human race continues throughout the years, why are we punished by the payment of tax on sanitary protection products?”
On the introduction of value added tax we were advised that this would only be added to goods of a luxury nature. As women we all know that sanitary protection products are a must and by any stretch of the imagination cannot be classed as luxury items.
Significant financial savings can be made throughout the lifespan for women of childbearing age if tax is not payable, therefore Conference asks the National Women’s Committee to liaise through our Affiliated Political Fund links to lobby Parliament to end the taxation on sanitary protection products.
