Resourcing and Facilitating Women Activisits

Back to all Motions

Conference
2003 National Women's Conference
Date
15 October 2002
Decision
Carried

Conference is pleased to see that women still comprise two thirds of the membership of UNISON and that women continue to be recruited into the union in ever increasing numbers. Conference is concerned that every support should be given to women to allow them to take an active role within the union as stewards and lay officers in accordance with the union’s commitment to proportionality and fair representation. Conference is pleased to note that UNISON supports the ethos of work life balance and believes that this should equally apply within the union and its organisation.

This Conference instructs the National Women’s Committee to liaise with the National Executive Council to:

1)Develop a policy to work with all regions and branches to negotiate practicable resources and facility time to allow both full time and part time women members to become activists within UNISON.

2)To ensure that regions and branches through their development plans incorporate monitoring and reporting of progress in increasing women’s participation in the union through adequate resourcing and facilitation.

3)That the National Women’s Committee report progress on this issue to Conference 2004.
