Lack of Recruitment of Disabled Ethnic Minorities Within Police Staffs

Conference
Police Service Group Conference 2003
Date
20 February 2003
Decision
Carried

This Conference is concerned that Disabled ethnic minority workers experience double disadvantage because of failures in recruitment processes within Police Staffs.

Whilst there is a drive to recruit ethnic minorities within the police, there is no focus on targeting disabled ethnic minority staff. Many forces appear to have taken no initiatives to improve the employment prospects of disabled people since the introduction of the Disability Discrimination Act 1995.

Therefore, we instruct the Police Staff Service Group Executive to work with the National Disabled Members Committee to develop guidance to Police Staff branches about specific measures that should be taken to improve Disabled ethnic minority workers employment opportunities.
