This Conference recognises the valuable work of the Trades Union Congress Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (TUC LGBT) Committee in building and developing policy for the TUC on LGBT issues and UNISON’s involvement in this.
Conference also recognises the work of the voluntary LGBT organisations, but believes the trade union movement is best placed to lead and provide a democratic forum for debate relating to LGBT policy, direction and campaigning activities on workplace issues.
Conference therefore instructs the National Lesbian and Gay Committee to work with the TUC LGBT Committee to:
1.be more proactive in raising LGBT issues;
2.increase their profile inside and outside of the LGBT community;
3.look to organise a campaigning website specifically on LGBT issues;
4.work with other TUC affiliates, particularly those in the public sector, to take forward publicity around new legislation and other campaigns of the TUC LGBT Committee;
