Equal Pay

2002 National Delegate Conference
Date

Decision
Carried

Conference welcomes the decision to make the campaign for equal pay a top priority for UNISON this year.

Surveys by UNISON and other organisations show that equal pay is a key concern to working women. Raising the profile of UNISON’s work on equal pay should encourage recruitment and retention of members.

Conference notes that, as part of its equal pay campaign, UNISON is participating in the TUC pilot project to train workplace equal pay representatives.

Conference calls on the National Executive Council to investigate how UNISON can enable women members to raise the issue of equal pay and pay auditing, and develop active support in their branches for the campaign for equal pay.

Conference also calls on the National Executive Council to work with the National Women’s Committee and service groups to maximise the success of the campaign, including the following:

1)Encourage branches to identify equal pay representatives;

2)Publicise the TUC pilot project;

3)Publicise UNISON’s equal pay training courses;

4)Produce guidance for branches on identifying and tackling pay discrimination.
