Accountability of Regional National Executive Council Members

Back to all Motions

Conference
2002 National Delegate Conference
Date
25 February 2002
Decision
Carried as Amended

This Conference confirms that regional National Executive Council members need to be fully involved in the activities of their regional councils in order to maintain lay democracy in UNISON.

Whilst recognising that regional National Executive Council members are elected by, and accountable to, the wider electorate of UNISON members throughout their region, Conference nevertheless believes that regional National Executive Council members should normally attend meetings of the relevant regional council and regional committee in order both to report back on the decisions of the National Executive Council and to be aware of policy developments within the Region.

This Conference therefore instructs the National Executive Council in conjunction with the regions to consider ways in which regional National Executive Council members can be encouraged and assisted in carrying out their responsibilities within their regions.
