- Carried as Amended
Conference notes with concern that the consultation on the political fund system due for Annual Delegate Conference 2002 has been delayed and the report is now due next year. The report was called for by a motion to 2001 National Delegate Conference. That motion, Motion 131 “The Labour Government – What do we get for our money?”, explicitly critiscised the current use of political funds and instructed the NEC to carry out a consultation on ” the future of UNISON’s political funds”. In the event the review has focussed on improving the existing system rather than on seeking alternative ways of influencing the political debate which was the clear intention of the initial motion.
Conference believes that the existing political fund structure is failing lesbian and gay members and endorses the NLGC’s submission to the Review of the Political Funds.
Conference instructs the NLGC to write to the NEC expressing this view.
