Conference
2002 National Disabled Members' Conference
Date
3 July 2002
Decision
Carried

Conference is appalled at the changes taking place in pension provision, involving movement from final salary schemes towards money purchase schemes across the public, private and voluntary sector.

Conference notes that disabled people are usually in lower paid jobs and have shorter working lives than other workers due to a culture of enforced early retirement.

Conference therefore instructs the National Disabled Members’ Committee to:

1)Investigate the implications of the various different types of pension scheme for disabled employees and publicise their findings;

2)Campaign for the retention of final salary pension schemes throughout public services;

3)Campaign for tax breaks for disabled employees in order to raise their pension contributions to levels comparable with other colleagues.
