Exports of Banned Products

Back to all Motions

Conference
2002 National Black Members' Conference
Date
31 May 2002
Decision
Carried as Amended

This Conference is angered that life-threatening products such as skin-lightening creams and so on can be produced in this country and shipped to Africa for sale, while being banned in this country.

This Conference condemns the legislative loophole that permits products banned under health and safety legislation in this country to be exported from this country to other countries with less stringent health and safety legislation and/or enforcement.

This Conference calls on the National Black Members’ Committee to raise this issue with:

1)The National Executive Council requesting that it publicise and campaign against the issue in U magazine;

2)The Affiliated Political Fund calling for the necessary legislative amendment to end the practice.

The National Black Members’ Committee to report back to National Black Members’ Conference 2003 on the progress of this issue.
