The College of Operating Department Practitioners introduced National ODP Day in 2018.
This was a huge success with lots of engagement on social media. One of the main aims of the day was to raise the profile of ODPs and this was certainly achieved as #ODPday became a top trending tweet on the day.
The College has decided to make this an annual event; this year ODP day will be held on
Thursday May 14th, 2020.
2020 is a very special year for the College, it is the 75th anniversary of the founding of the College so we want as many ODPs to get involved in #ODPday as possible.
Because it is our 75th anniversary, we are extending the celebrations to run to 19th June when we will be holding a professional seminar and a celebratory meal. ODPs will therefore be invited to celebrate the role of ODPs at any stage across that time period if 14th May does not work for them
Resources available for the day:
You can order branded lanyards, pens and badges from TC Branding Group. We will have to reach a minimum order quantity for these resources to be delivered but details are as follows:

There is no charge for the celebratory badges, we have ordered and paid for 500 hundred but you need to order your supply from TC Branding Group. Branches are able to order up to a maximum of 20 badges each.

PLEASE NOTE: Branches will incur an additional delivery charge once we can confirm quantity of items to be delivered to each Branch (badges are free but branches will have to pay for delivery)

Suggested activities on the day:
- Have an information stall in your hospital/University (or even local shopping centre) to promote the range of skills ODPs have and raise public awareness of what ODPs do,
- Organise careers talks at your local schools or talk to local groups such as Brownies, Scouts, St John’s Ambulance Cadets etc
- Have a bake sale, again to draw people in so that you can raise the profile of ODPs
- Find a local celebrity to dress up in scrubs
- Get quotes from patients about their positive experience
- Tweet photos of your activities during the day using the official hashtag: #ODPday.
Action for branches:
- From mid-February, download resources from the ODP website and personalise them to your event (the resources will be available from the UNISON CODP page
- Order resources fromTC supplies as detailed above
- Make sure your local press are informed about your events to get as much publicity as possible
- Use the event as an opportunity to recruit and organise ODP members
