
Members are entitled to claim three rule book benefits. They are the accident benefit, death benefit and fatal accident benefit.
Accident benefit
If you have had an accident in the course of your employment, or whilst travelling to or from work or upon Union business which meant you could not work, you may be entitled to the UNISON Accident Benefit.
Eligibility
To be eligible to apply for the accident benefit, you must have been a member of UNISON for at least four weeks and up-to-date with your subscriptions.
To apply, please download the claim form, fill it out and return it to your branch secretary for authorisation.
Death benefit
If a member has died whilst in full membership the next of kin may be entitled to the UNISON death benefit.
Eligibility
To be eligible to apply for the death benefit, they must have been a member of UNISON for at least four weeks and up-to-date with their subscriptions.
Only retired ex-NUPE members are entitled to the death benefit.
To apply, please download the claim form, fill it out and return it to their branch secretary for authorisation. Please also enclose a copy of the death certificate.
Fatal accident benefit
If there is a fatal accident in the course of a member’s employment, or whilst travelling to or from work or upon Union business. They may be entitled to the UNISON fatal accident benefit.
Eligibility
To be eligible to apply for the fatal accident benefit, they must have been a member of UNISON for at least four weeks and up-to-date with their subscriptions.
The member must be survived by a partner or at least one dependant.
To apply, please download the claim form, fill it out and return it to their branch secretary for authorisation. Please also enclose a copy of the death certificate and a letter from the employer saying the death took place at work or travelling to or from work.
