The 2024 WET and Energy Equalities Seminar will take place on 5-7 July at the Sheffield Centre Novotel.

This is a key event for members in WET and Energy branches who are interested in learning more and engaging with promoting equality and diversity in workplaces and in wider society as part of their trade union work.

It is an opportunity for activists and members who are already engaged in these areas, or who wish to become more engaged, to learn and share expertise with others, to hear the latest on the union’s national equality campaigns, participate in sharing knowledge and expertise with others, and network more widely with other UNISON activists.

Provisional Seminar Programme

The seminar programme will include a variety of workshops, presentations, group activities and network opportunities centred around a variety of equality areas. These will focus on how to take forward these priorities in the context of trade union organising, bargaining and campaigning.

A provisional programme for the seminar can be found below, but the areas set to be on the programme include the following:

  • UNISON’s Year of LGBT+ Workers 2024 – organising, bargaining and campaigning for change.
  • Neurodiversity – supporting neurodivergent workers.
  • UNISON Young Members – organising young workers, bargaining around work/life balance and campaigning on the Right to Disconnect.
  • Menopause awareness – ensuring support in the workplace.
  • UK equality law: recent changes in equality and employment law – what UNISON reps need to know.

A provisional programme for the seminar can be downloaded here:

As well as this, there will be additional guest speakers, group participation workshops, networking opportunities and a seminar social and dinner, along with a charity fundraising raffle, on the Saturday night.
