The course will help you to:  

  • understand the health and safety reps’ role;
  • carry out the health and safety reps’ duties;
  • be more effective in the role;
  • understand the key rights of the health and safety reps;
  • recognise the employer’s responsibilities on health and safety;
  • organise members around health and safety issues;
  • understand the key legal requirements for risk assessments, and the criteria used;
  • be familiar with the UNISON approach to risk assessment;
  • understand how risk assessment can be used as part of a workplace strategy for improving the health, safety and welfare of members;
  • develop a risk assessment resource pack for use in your workplace and the union.

 

How the course will work

The course involves group work and discussion and is a good opportunity to network and share ideas and experiences.

Accreditation

Six credits at Open College Network level one.
