This course will help you to:
- use the membership system independently and confidently;
- use RMS to meet the branch and the national union’s organising objectives;
- enter, retrieve, process and publish data;
- be aware of the regulatory framework covering the use of computers;
- understand and use RMS/UNISON guidance and procedures on maintaining the national system and your branch records;
- understand the support available to a branch with live access to RMS and be able to work effectively with the region;
- understand how to keep up to date with changes to RMS via the RIC and to feed branch needs in to the software development process;
- use good working practice when working with a computer.
How the course will work
Module 1: Database maintenance and organisation
Module 1 covers adding new members, finding member records, checking membership status, and amending existing records.
After completing this module, you will be able to maintain your own branch records. When you are ready, you will be given live access to the RMS, based on the training.
Module 2: Branch organisation
Module 2 covers how to use RMS to support the activities of the branch: identifying and organising groups of members, producing reports and lists of membership information, branch mapping and supporting recruitment and campaigning.
We also cover how a branch can set up distribution/ mailing lists. (How to use mailings lists is covered in Module 3.)
You will also learn how to store details of branch activists and how to use the database to support the activities of those activists, campaign groups, the branch committee etc.
Module 3: Communicating with groups of members
Module 3 covers how to use the membership system to communicate with members: groups of members, local consultations and handling individual members’ mailing requirements etc.
