Whether you’re an old hand or a new activist in higher education, there are loads of opportunities this month to log on, join in and skill up with our packed agenda of webinars and online workshops.

From pay, TUPE and challenging redundancy, to tackling racial harassment and building negotiating skills, there’s something for everyone throughout November.

These events are exclusively for UNISON members, activists and staff.

Workshops

We are also offering a series of online, interactive workshops. These workshops are limited to 30 places per session. To sign up for these workshops you will need to:

  • email education@unison.co.uk;
  • state your name, membership number, and university employer;
  • write the name of workshop that you are interested in attending in the subject line

If these workshops are oversubscribed then your name will be put on a waiting list and we will run these workshops again.

If you are allocated a place you will then be sent a link to join the online training event. If you find that you can’t attend please email education@unison.co.uk to cancel your place.

 


TUPE
Thursday 19 November, 2pm – 4pm

An in-depth look at the law on TUPE and members’ rights, including:

  • Recap of TUPE rules
  • Stages leading up to TUPE
  • TUPE and collective redundancies
  • Cabinet Office statement of practice on staff transfers
  • Contractual terms
  • The economic, technical and organisational clause
  • After transfer issues

Higher Education Role Analysis (HERA)
19 November 2020, 9.30am – 12.30pm and
20 November, 9.30am – 12.30pm

These sessions are an introduction to the job evaluation scheme – HERA. This introductory workshop is only suitable for delegates whose university uses HERA. This is a 2-part training course and you must be able to attend both sessions.

Redundancy
Monday 23 November, 2pm – 4pm

Building on the themes touched upon in the webinar, this workshop will provide more detail on the law surrounding redundancies and will include a discussion on what to look for in a good redundancy agreement. This session will also introduce ideas on union organising when facing redundancies.

Building negotiating skills is vital in situations where TUPE, redundancies and other changes at the workplace are taking place.
