Further education and sixth form colleges seminar

The seminar will be a mixture of workshops and presentations on key areas  acing members in the sector such as:

  • challenges arising from area reviews;
  • mergers;
  • TUPE;
  • term-time working;
  • the gender pay gap and pay equality;
  • mental health at work;
  • apprenticeships;
  • the role of instructor/demonstrators;
  • return to learn;
  • challenging xenophobia.

Seminar costs and accommodation

UNISON branches are expected to pay the cost for their delegates attending this seminar and are asked to ensure that their colleges are represented at this important annual event.

  • Full delegate rate: £295 – includes bed and breakfast, dinner, 2 lunches and all venue and event costs.
  • Day delegate rate: £23 per day – includes lunch and event costs.
  • Partner rate: £10 bed and breakfast; £15.95 lunch; £20 dinner.


All delegates and partners need to be registered by 31 March. This will require authorisation from the branch secretary or chair.

Branches need to register full delegates via union’s the Online conference system (OCS) and payment will then be deducted from branch accounts.

For day delegates, branches need to download and fill in the  day delegate registration form and send it to  m.roper@unison.co.uk, to arrive by the 31 March deadline. Payment will then be deducted from branch accounts via the OCS.

Delegates with partners need to register them, using the partner registration form and sending it to  m.roper@unison.co.uk, to arrive by the 31 March deadline. You will need to pay the partner rate directly to the hotel.

Using the OCS

Branches can log onto the UNISON online conferencing system by clicking on ‘My UNISON’ at the top of the UNISON website’s front page. Once your are logged in, follow the instructions to book a place on the 2017 FE and 6th form branch seminar.

The system rrecords which members hold the key positions of branch Secretary and branch chair. If this information is incorrect, or if it changes, the branch needs to ensure that the RMS records are updated immediately.

Once a member has been registered by their branch as a delegate to the seminar,  they will be notified by email, as long as their email address is listed on the RMS.

They can then also access the OCS to upload their photograph, to make online requests for services such as reasonable adjustments and book crèche places These should be made by 31 March.
