Branch Secretary Update September 2024: Bargaining support

How can UNISON’s Bargaining Support team help you?

  • Bargaining Support offers a huge range of comprehensive bargaining guides and model documents, covering every dimension of members’ terms and conditions
  • The guides run from core issues, such as pay, hours, leave and sickness absence, to more specialist areas such as vehicle allowances or hot desking
  • The model documents provide “off-the shelf” agreements, surveys and letters, that can be adapted to local bargaining priorities
  • Though regional organising staff are the first port of call on specifically local bargaining issues, Bargaining Support can be contacted for further assistance on the wider issues covered by the guides
  • We can offer particular support for pay claims that lie outside of national negotiations, through analysis of accounts
  • And we can often provide national or sectoral benchmarks on many more areas that commonly lie at the heart of local negotiations
  • To contact Bargaining Support on any of these issues, email bsg@unison.co.uk

Requests for your assistance

  • If you have recently negotiated new agreements with your employer – we want to hear from you!  UNISON’s bargaining database of negotiated agreements relies on information from branches and regions, whether it is an updated policy, a pay negotiation or a recognition agreement. Please forward copies to Bargaining Support as they help UNISON build its database of agreements and respond effectively to requests for examples of benchmarks for negotiations.
  • Bargaining Support is also always grateful to receive case studies of how branches have achieved particular bargaining successes. These can be incorporated into UNISON’s bargaining guides and spread knowledge across the union of best practice.
  • Agreements and / or case studies can be sent to Bargaining Support on bsg@unison.co.uk
