Important dates for branch welfare officers
- There for You Annual General Meeting will take place during National Delegate Conference in Brighton on Tuesday 18 June.
- There for You Fundraising Quiz Night Tuesday 18 June 7.00pm, everyone welcome, if it is as good as last year’s event, it is sure to be the hottest ticket in Brighton.
Branch welfare officer training
In April 2024, 35 branch welfare officers successfully completed their training.
We are delighted to be able to offer opportunities during October for three cohorts [20 spaces per cohort] of branch welfare officers to receive training.
Registration for the October courses will open at the end of May/beginning of June. LAOS are keeping a waiting list for anyone who would like to attend the October training so if branches or regions contact LAOS with details of their branch welfare officer, they can be added to the waiting list and contacted by LAOS once registration is open.

Raising money for There for You
In addition to branch donations [please remember to always provide your branch code so that we can send a thank you acknowledgement and certificate to display in the workplace]; and branches playing the UNISON Lottery https://sterlinglotteries.wufoo.com/forms/z192cqd41edr2p7/, we are excited to announce that some of our more enthusiastic members are finding other great ways to support UNISON’s charity including James Kirkpatrick.
James, from UNISON Glasgow Clyde and CVS treasurer, is hitting the Strictly Come Dancing Ballroom in order to raise money for UNISON’s welfare charity “There For You”. James has never danced a day in his life and self-reportedly has two left feet, but on Saturday 1 June 2024, James will take part in “Step Up For Charity 2024” and will be partnered with a professional dancer who he will perform a dance routine with on the night.
We wish James all the best and thanks in advance for the help to our members that the funds you raise will provide.
It’s not too late to sponsor James, so if you or any of your colleagues would like to sponsor James and raise money for There for You, there has never been a better time.

Conferences
We have been out and about with the There for You exhibition stand raising awareness of the charity to members who are still unaware of the existence of There for You and how it could help them and their colleagues and to showcase the latest materials available for members to take back to their workplaces to keep raising our profile.
So far this year we have had a presence at:
- Black members conference
- Higher Education conference
- Women’s conference
- Community conference
- Health conference
National Delegate Conference 2024
We will be at National Delegate Conference [NDC] in Brighton from 16 – 20 June.
We would love for anyone who is coming to NDC to come and visit us on the There for You Exhibition Stand, but in addition to the stand.
We will have a presence in the UNIZONE on 19 June.
If you have an hour to spare during lunchtime on 18 June, pop along to our Annual General Meeting.
Or … if you just want to have a fun evening out and in the company of other UNISON members, Branch Welfare Officers, Trustees and There for You staff, come to our Big Quiz Night, where we will be raising funds for UNISON’s charity There for You.
The quiz night will take place on 18 June at 7pm at Charles Street Tap, 8 Marine Parade, Brighton, BN2 1TA. Tickets are £10 per person, quiz teams are six people per table, don’t worry if you don’t have a team of six, like last year, we can join you with other attendees to make a full table.
