Have you filled your new rule-book position of Branch Environmental Officer yet? – we can help you.
This issue is attractive to young, and prospective, members and particularly to members who may not currently be engaging with the union so it’s a great recruitment / retention opportunity.
The role comes with training, resources and other support that you can find out more about here. You can also sign up to the national Green UNISON newsletter where you’ll find out about UK-wide initiatives, resources and campaigns that your branch may want to get involved in.
While many branches had informal ‘green reps’ as part of their branch structures, the formal officer position is relatively new, stemming from a rule change agreed in 2022.
The drive to get public services to net zero means this issue already affects all our members!
If you want to know why this role has become so important to UNISON you can take a look at the 2024 motion carried by our national conference which explains the impact of climate change on our workplaces, jobs, families and communities here.
Please get in touch with Michelle Singleton (m.singleton@unison.co.uk) for more information and support.
