EXTRA PAY RISE FOR LOWEST PAID POLICE STAFF IN APRIL 2025
Thanks to a claim submitted to the police employers by UNISON and the other police staff trade unions in November 2024, the employers have agreed to delete the lowest pay point on the Police Staff Council pay spine with effect from 1 April 2025.
This means that any police staff who are on the lowest pay point on 1 April 2025 will automatically move up to the next highest pay point on that date and police forces will in future recruit staff to the new lowest pay point. Here are the pay points in question:
Pay Point 8 £23,286 Deleted 1 April 2025
Pay Point 9 £23,748 New lowest pay point from 1 April 2025
For staff moving from pay point 8 to pay point 9, this is the equivalent of an extra 1.98% pay rise on top of the 4.75% pay rise in September last year.
The background to this agreement with the employers is that the national living wage is due to rise to £2.21/hour on 1 April this year. As this increase would have overtaken the value of pay point 8, the unions put in a claim for staff on pay point 8 to automatically move to pay point 9 on 1 April this year. Pay point 9 has an hourly rate of £12.31/hour.
We are pleased that the employers responded positively to our claim and that our lowest paid members will get a pay increase in April.
