Probation Pay 2024
Thanks to all the UNISON members who took part in our digital consultative ballot back in June. Just over 44% of members took part in the ballot, which was a fantastic turnout. Of those voting, 98% said that they would be prepared to vote for industrial action to get HMPPS to reopen the three year pay award and offer more pay if formally balloted. This showed HMPPS the strength of feeling of members over their pay and this could not be ignored. As a result, in August, HMPPS offered to bring forward the pay rise for all probation staff from 1 October to 1 April this year – giving members their pay rise 6 months early – and to delete the lowest pay point in pay band 2. The trade unions accepted this offer and payment will be made to staff in the October 2024 pay run.

YOUR VIEWS ON THE 2025 PAY CLAIM
The following draft pay claim has been drawn up by UNISON’s Probation Service Committee. Now we want to hear your views on the claim.
The proposed elements of the claim are:
- One year claim (not multi-year)
- 12% increase on all pay points
- 12% increase on all cash allowances: London Weighting/Geographical Allowances etc
- A guarantee that the lowest pay point does not fall below the real living wage figure of £12.60/hour for 2025 which equates to £24,308/year for probation staff.
The closing date for the consultation, which is being run branches, is 8 November.
