We believe police and justice staff should be paid fairly, which is why we work together to negotiate better pay with employers.
Police Staff (England and Wales)
The pay and conditions of the majority of police staff working for forces in England and Wales are negotiated and agreed at the Police Staff Council (PSC) for England and Wales. This national negotiating body brings together the Home Office, National Police Chiefs Council and the Association of Police and Crime Commissioners (employers) with the police staff trade unions including UNISON. UNISON is the largest union. The PSC publishes a national handbook of terms and conditions which forms the basis of the terms and conditions of police staff in forces. The PSC also negotiates the annual pay rise for police staff.
Probation Staff (England and Wales)
The pay and conditions of staff working for the National Probation Service (NPS) and the 21 Community Rehabilitation Companies (CRCs) are negotiated and agreed at the Probation Service National Negotiating Council (NNC). This national negotiating body was protected in the transfer of probation staff from the former Probation Trusts to the NPS and CRCs on 1 June 2014.
