Oasis Community Learning – back pay

Oasis back pay

OCL has acknowledged that it has underpaid staff on term time only contracts. To remedy this, they corrected their pay calculations from September 2020 and have a final offer to the joint support staff unions on back pay for affected staff.

UNISON members in Oasis agreed with the recommendation to accept the offer of five years and three months back pay in respect of the underpayment of annual leave.

Here are the details of the offer from Oasis, and some FAQs that explain more about it.

Settlement process

Individual members of staff will be made an offer based on their pay and working pattern. Any individual offer is subject to your agreement to accept the amount calculated by Oasis and to accept the terms and conditions of a “COT3 settlement”.

This document will help explain the settlement process.

Staff that have left Oasis

As part of the terms of the offer, Oasis have agreed to make payments to staff that left but have been underpaid. Oasis will contact any staff that have left employment since September 2020.

However, if you have any friends or former colleagues that left Oasis before September 2020, but worked for them after 2015, they will need to apply for a payment.

They can do this either by contacting Oasis directly, or if they are a former UNISON member they can also contact Ben Thomas at b.thomas@unison.co.uk. They should state the school they worked at, their home current address and the period that they worked for Oasis.

Growing UNISON and getting active

UNISON has led the negotiations with Oasis that corrected the pay of term time only workers and led to the improved offer. We will support members in explaining their calculation and their rights to a settlement.

If you have friends or colleagues working for Oasis who are not members of a union, you should encourage them to join – it’s important that as many staff are union members as possible.

If you are interested in becoming a UNISON contact in your school, please contact Ben Thomas on b.thomas@unison.co.uk who will send details to your local UNISON branch. Our union is as strong as its members!
