About this job

There has never been a more important time to protect our members in public services and encourage those that are not members to join a powerful voice. Are you a people person with good listening and problem-solving skills? Do you possess the determination to make a difference to people’s lives?

UNISON is looking for enthusiastic, flexible, and resourceful individuals to support the Greater London Region with a range of organising projects. The first projects will focus on leading and delivering on projects around Multi Academy Trusts and the future of Social Care. Any future projects focussed on UNISON’s key priorities.

The role will focus principally upon developing organising campaigns as well as mentoring and supporting new activists, negotiating with employers and campaigning to make a difference to public sector workers.

The successful candidate will bring their experience and skills in one-to-one communications, organising, project development and campaigning. Previous experience as a recruiter, organiser, and campaigner within a trade union or community organisation would be desirable, although you may have transferrable skills. You will also need to demonstrate understanding of trade unionism and our union’s values.

The successful candidates will need to be flexible with their working hours. Reaching members who work in these environments can be challenging during “office hours” so the successful candidate may be required to work in the evening, early mornings and occasionally at weekends. UNISON has a range of policies to support a healthy work/life balance. You will need to be able to travel in and around Greater London.

The Greater London Region prides itself on its diverse membership. In 2023, we celebrated the Year of the Black Worker, and in 2024, UNISON’s priority is the Year of the LGBT+ Worker campaign. We aim to represent the entire public sector in our multicultural city and welcome applications from all backgrounds. This ensures our union truly reflects our members, the community, and public sector workers, reaching those who need us most. We support and encourage applications from Black, Asian and other backgrounds.
