About this job

UNISON Eastern has a proud record of organising and an impressive list of achievements won by members. We know from experience that good organising is the key to success. That’s why our first objective is to organise all those employed directly or indirectly, within those areas of employment which provide services to the public.

The successful candidates will have the right blend of intelligence, passion and people skills. Working as part of a team in Multi-Academy Trusts across the Eastern Region you will hone your skills with our Organising To Win approach.

Working with school support staff and members in contracted services you will develop and maintain a strong, functional and effective union in their workplaces. You will build member participation with an escalating plan to achieve a specific win, while building organising into our members everyday activity and working. This will be planned, resourced and targeted campaigning with empowered, trained and active members you’ve inspired and motivated, front and centre.

The successful candidate will need to be flexible with their working hours and their leave (due to term time access) and have the ability to travel in a flexible and timely manner across the Eastern Region (Norfolk, Suffolk, Cambridgeshire, Bedfordshire, Hertfordshire and Essex). You will be based at one of our regional offices, either Higdon House in Bury St Edmunds or Church Lane House in Chelmsford. You may also be required to travel to our Head Office in London for training.

If you have a passion for fairness, equality, trade unionism and workers’ rights; if you think you’ve got what it takes to work in a dynamic team, helping to recruit members, develop the next generation of leaders and activists to deliver winning campaigns then this might the job for you.
