This is a new post, working alongside the senior officers with the aim of improving financial controls and procedures already in place aimed at ensuring the integrity of financial records, compliance with internal and external rules and regulations and promoting best practice.

The post holder will provide support and assistance in order to achieve agreed work plans including planned operational and systems developments, branch appeals and supporting the Finance Team at Conferences. The section provides first class accounting support and advisory service, including budgeting and forecasting primarily to branch officers. The role combines a degree of autonomy, interesting and varied work with opportunities to make valued contributions in shaping and improving the union’s operations and processes towards effective financial management.

Responsibilities and duties will therefore involve undertaking a wide range of detailed financial analyses, including forecasting, and reporting with recommendations to senior managers; delivering financial and systems training to branch and regional officers; dealing with branch funding and related issues, enquiries and appeals and assisting or supporting branches with their yearend accounts and returns. You will be actively involved in the branch appeals process with reference to internal procedures and rules on participation and compliance. The post holder will be highly organised and able to work unsupervised to meet the diverse demands and objectives of the finance section to strict deadlines.

The role is essentially office based however some degree of travel to branches and regional offices across the UK will be required, with possible overnight stays, in attending meetings, providing training to lay and regional officers and attendance at some conferences.
