The post holder will have overarching responsibility and ownership of the union’s people strategy, which includes well-being, engagement, policy and process development, HR operations, industrial relations management, EDI, and staff learning & development.
The Director of Human Resources and Staff Learning will play an important role within UNISON’s Senior Management Group and work in partnership with our National Executive Council Committees. The post holder will provide strategic leadership to the union on key HR and Staff Learning projects and initiatives.
The post holder will have very highly developed leadership, negotiating and advocacy skills in order to meet the wide variety of situations arising in the department. They will require in-depth experience of undertaking strategic planning and a proven track record in organisation wide organisational development and change management programmes. They will also have high level experience of operating and influencing effectively in a political environment and in-depth understanding of the role of trade union and the national and local social and political environment in which the union operates.
