Our Finance Department is now looking for an experienced, highly capable and motivated Financial Controller, part of whose job it will be to develop and enhance the department’s ability to deliver a truly first-class support service. A wide-ranging role that comes with a significant degree of autonomy, this role offers the post holder a real opportunity to influence and shape the finance teams, financial controls and governance and services to the organisation as a whole.

Key tasks and responsibilities will include:

  • Reporting to the Finance Director on the provision of strategic and operational support to management and lay committees.
  • Managing UNISON’s interest and relations with appropriate external bodies and organisations
  • Managing the budgeting process and ensuring the provision of appropriate, accurate and timely information to budget holders and managers.
  • Overseeing the delivery of prompt and accurate statutory and management information, including financial statements, year-end process and lead audit schedules.
  • Establishing and maintaining proper financial records, a system of strong internal control and robust information databases.
  • Management of the day-to-day finance operations and teams, including all aspects of finance governance, policy and guidelines.

The successful candidate will have a recognised CCAB qualification with proven post-qualification experience and be able to demonstrate:

  • Experience of leading a large team and managing staff, including all aspects of their development
  • Ability to lead on strategic development and change at the most senior level.
  • Strong analytical, communication, and IT skills
