About this job

UNISON is the UK’s largest trade union with over 1.3 members.  In Northern Ireland our members work in health & social services, education and housing, the private sector delivering public services and in the community & voluntary sector. Our public services are under major threat. Our members are working under extreme pressure, but actively campaigning for services and jobs.

The role of Local Organiser is a key organising role in UNISON and is at the heart of our mission to improve the working lives of our members and secure equality and rights for them, their families and communities.

The successful candidates will bring their experience and skills in one-to-one communications, recruitment, organising and campaigning. In particular, they will focus on recruiting new members – motivating them to take an active role in our campaigns, and identifying new activists across all sectors of our membership.  They will demonstrate a commitment to trade unionism and our union’s values, as well as a good understanding of UNISON’s policies and objectives.

The UNISON Regional Centre is in Belfast, but some posts may require significant activity in locations across Northern Ireland and will entail daily travel for recruitment activities, meetings and/or training as required.

The successful candidates will need to be flexible with their working hours.  Reaching members can be challenging during “office hours” so the successful candidate may be required to work in the evening and occasionally at weekends.
