The Director of Finance will contribute to the Union’s strategic financial direction and be the lead source of professional advice on all financial matters. The role reports to the Chief Operating Officer/Assistant General Secretary (Organisation and Resource Development).
Responsibilities:
- Provide strategic financial guidance to the General Secretary, her team of senior staff and contribute to the development of organisational objectives.
- Build and maintain excellent working relationships with colleagues, the National Executive Council and lay members to support the delivery of Unison’s organisational strategy.
- Oversee budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning, ensuring efficient resource allocation.
- Manage financial reporting, management accounts, Unison staff pension scheme, audits, and compliance with all regulatory requirements.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support informed decision-making and efficient financial operations.
- Ensure prudent financial risk management and be a strong advocate for good financial management throughout the Union.
Requirements:
- Proven experience in senior financial leadership roles, preferably within the non-for profit environment.
- Strong understanding of trade union financial regulations and compliance.
- Extensive experience of accounting standards and budgeting processes.
- Excellent communication skills to present complex financial information to both financial and non-financial stakeholders in a variety of formats.
- Chartered Accountant (ACA, ACCA, or equivalent) qualification preferred.
- A Strategic mindset, with the ability to drive the Union forward.
