The post holder will be the first-line manager to a number of support staff and also provide comprehensive secretarial and administrative support to the Regional Management Team.
The post will be based at the UNISON Regional Office in Newcastle.
Duties will include:-
- Line-managing a range of support staff
- Assisting the Head of Corporate Services in the delivery of corporate services functions.
- Drafting and distributing correspondence, publicity material and other information as directed.
- Providing a comprehensive committee and administrative support for a number of committees and meetings.
- Regional IT contact using various IT applications.
- Participating in recruitment and campaign events as directed by the Head of Corporate Services and Regional Secretary.
- Assisting in providing basic advice and assistance on UNISON services and activities
- Participating as required in the recruitment and retention of UNISON members
The person: you need to have:-
- Proven ability and experience to manage a range of staff
- Excellent and proven communication skills
- The ability to provide comprehensive secretarial and admin support at all levels including the ability to touch type at speed (50 wpm or above) with precision and accuracy
- The ability to use Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook
- The ability to draft correspondence and other documentation including agendas and minutes and to be able to take detailed notes at meetings/investigations
- The ability to work on own initiative and as a team member providing support to a number of teams as and when necessary
- Knowledge of and commitment to the trade union movement and the values of UNISON and a commitment and understanding of equal opportunities
