About this job

Our busy procurement team is growing. We are looking for a Procurement Advisor to support the Contracts & Purchasing Manager and work alongside three other Procurement Advisors.

The procurement team, based at UNISON Centre, plays a central role in guiding and advising budget holders on all procurement matters to ensure procurement across the union is carried out in alignment with UNISON’s financial standing orders, procurement policies and procedures.

You’ll be responsible for leading and running tender processes from start to finish, including sourcing and vetting suppliers, drafting documentation, analysis of bids and post tender clarification and negotiation. You’ll also manage suppliers for national arrangements, advise colleagues on procurement matters and undertake day to day purchasing. We’re moving towards a category focused approach, so you’ll be able to build up your knowledge and expertise within a particular category portfolio, but we also require flexibility, so this won’t be rigid. This is a very varied and interesting role. Experience of IT and professional services procurement is useful but not essential.

You will need to have experience of working within purchasing, be self-motivated and have excellent communication, negotiation, and organisational skills.
