An exciting and challenging opportunity has arisen for a Regional and Branch Development Support Officer within our Finance Department. We are currently seeking a highly motivated and dynamic individual to oversee, manage and report on National, Regional and branch finances and operations. The post holder will be involved in developing and improving the quality of financial system, controls and reporting as well as comprehensive guidance on  matters of governance and best practice. The role combines a great deal of autonomy, interesting and varied work, and opportunities to make valued contributions in shaping and improving the union’s operations and processes at branch and regional level.  

Responsibilities and duties will include various aspects of financial and management reporting in a large multi-cost centre environment at branch and regional level. The work will involve regular monitoring and review of reporting needs, providing training and support across the organisation, whilst working alongside other colleagues within the finance function, senior managers, and lay structures. As a team leader, you will be required to undertake project work aimed at providing solutions and ongoing improvements to financial systems, controls, and policies, providing reports with recommendations for senior managers or lay committees on matters of process or procedures and rule book requirement. This includes matters of governance and enhancing procedures already in place aimed at ensuring compliance with internal and external rules and regulations. The post holder will be responsible for providing first class advisory and support service primarily to branch and other lay officers to ensure the integrity of financial records and annual returns. An integral part of this work will require undertaking regular financial analysis and along with financial modelling as required. The post holder will be required to manage at least one member of staff in all its aspects and prepare work plans for the team to meet its objectives; maintain comprehensive working records and files on all routine and /or special enquiries. The role also involves the preparations for and attendance at the unions’ annual conferences to oversee the card vote administration and other ad hoc duties.   

You will be required to have a high-level technical knowledge of and proven working experience in financial and management accounting principles and concepts and preferably some practical knowledge of internal and external auditing principles and practices.  As the role will be demanding, it calls for an individual who has strong proven analytical skills and reporting attributes with an eye for detail; knowledge and understanding of financial systems to be able to produce and present relevant information to both financial and non-financial stakeholders and the ability to communicate effectively at all levels in a timely manner. The post holder will be highly organised and able to work unsupervised to meet the diverse demands and objectives for effective branch financial management. 

The role will involve frequent travel to branches and regional offices across the UK with  overnight stays as required in order to deliver on training and support to lay branch and regional officers.
