As a membership organisation, protecting personal data is a core principle, and we are committed to maintaining high standards of practice.  UNISON requires a new Head of Data Protection and Information Compliance.  This post will be based at our national centre and will be key to developing and improving UNISON’s data protection and information management provisions.

This varied and responsible role will include:

  • Acting as lead contact for the Information Commissioner’s Office with regard to complaints, breach reporting and consultations for the union and union owned businesses (Croyde Bay).
  • Acting as the point of contact for staff, members and the public on all data protection matters.
  • Lead on providing advice on data protection to support members in the workplace. Ensure that all activists and staff are trained to spot data protection issues, where to seek expert advice and provide tools to support members.
  • Improving and developing mandatory training programmes for staff, branch officers and lay members to embed Data Protection best practice throughout the organisation.

Communication skills are key, and the post holder will be a confident user of Microsoft Office and have first-rate IT skills.  An excellent working knowledge of data protection legislation and employment law with a professional qualification (CIPP/E, PC.dp or legal qualification barrister or solicitor).

The post holder will also have experience in establishing/maintaining information management systems.
