About this job

You will lead a small team of caseworkers delivering a consistently high-quality service to members of UNISON.

For this position, you will most likely have worked for a grant giving charity, voluntary or public sector organisation and have gained experience in a casework manager or team leader role.

You will:

  • Play a key role in the development and implementation of grant making strategy and policy.
  • Be responsible for the management of a high quality, efficient and effective grant making operation.
  • Ensure that the charity maximises the help it gives to UNISON members.
  • Manage and support a team of caseworkers plus grants administrator.
  • Deputise for the Head of UNISON Welfare in their absence.

As well as operational responsibility, the successful candidate will be expected to manage their own diverse and complex caseload assessing applications for financial assistance and provide generalist advice and information across areas including income maximisation, benefits, housing, debt, and health.

You will have a key role on a current project to develop our case management system, including completing the move to online applications; ensuring every potential to streamline workflow, administrative and reporting processes is maximised.

Self-motivated and with a can-do approach, you will have excellent communication skills, be able to work under your own initiative, and cope well under pressure.

If you enjoy helping people and would like to work as part of a team dedicated to providing an excellent service, this could be the role for you. You will be joining a highly experienced, motivated and supportive team.
