The Assistant Education Officer is part of a team with responsibility for developing strategy, providing resources and ensuring high quality delivery of a comprehensive programme of education, training and support to UNISON members and activists.  The role includes:

  • overseeing the maintenance and development of the Activist and Member Training (AMT) data base,
  • coordinating and managing delivery of the union’s national training programme for members of national committees and senior branch activist,
  • supervise and direct the work of the administrative staff that carry out work areas such as course administration, bursary and learning grant administration and organising events,
  • monitor expenditure within the Learning and organising services budget and regional activist education budgets, liaising with regions to ensure correct spend and tallying income received,
  • support the LAOS team and particularly the Head of Learning and Organising Unit by providing research and analysis of training and activist development data, financial and other budgetary information and other data relevant to assess the effectiveness of learning and training activity.

You will need excellent writing and research skills, have experience of working with financial and data systems, be well organised with the ability to work in a team and able to take lead responsibility for projects.

The successful candidate will have an understanding of lifelong learning and its relevance to the workplace and will have experience and an appreciation of the link between learning and union organising.
