The Assistant National Officer post is part of a team of equality specialists in head office, called the Membership Participation Unit (MPU). It works directly with six UK wide groups of UNISON members: Black members; disabled members; lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender plus members; retired members; women members and young members. These groups have national committees which work in partnership with other parts of the union to identify and promote our equality agenda. MPU officers also advise other UNISON committees, including the National Executive Council and national negotiating bodies, on equality. As a strategic centre, we provide the necessary guidance and tools for our branches and regions to promote equality and tackle discrimination in the workplace, including campaigning at local and national levels.
The Assistant National Officer will assist in providing specialist equality advice to a range of audiences. They will be responsible for the smooth running of committees and forums and will draft papers for committees. The job will involve some UK travel.
They will assist in developing policy, guidance and organising resources for regions, branches and members.
