Unison There for You is a charity providing welfare services to members of UK’s leading public services trade union Unison. We are seeking a versatile and experienced Finance Officer with excellent communication and IT skills to provide comprehensive and effective financial management support for the charity.

This post is a Maternity Cover, for a minimum 12 month period.

Reporting to the Head of the Charity, the post-holder will:

  • Ensure the efficient and smooth running of our accounting systems and processes including preparing management accounts.  Also that the charity has sound financial controls and that all statutory requirements are met.
  • Work closely with colleagues to ensure good practice in financial management and to safeguard the assets of the charity.
  • Be experienced in providing a full range of financial functions and be confident in financial management including – financial reporting, investment oversight, forecasting, budget setting and budgetary controls; proficient in computerised accounting packages; and, knowledgeable about charity accounts.
  • Actively find ways of making all financial systems and processes more efficient and effective to benefit all our stakeholders and have a track record of meeting deadlines.

As well as being an excellent team player the successful candidate will have at least 3 years experience in the charity sector and charity accounting.

*Whilst there is some flexibility on how the hours are structured, this role requires the post holder to be in the office at least two days per week.  The successful candidate also need to be prepared to adapt their working hours to accommodate busier periods – for example annual audit.
