About this job

The role of the Health and Safety Officer will focus on providing guidance and support to managers in implementing UNISON’s Staff Health and Safety policies, procedures and practices. They will be responsible for developing and updating these policies and procedures.

The post-holder will be responsible for managing staff risk assessments, return to work assessments and occupational health assessments and implementation of the outcomes. They will oversee all accident reporting and regularly review and report on UNISON’s performance. The will manage the allocated budget for Staff Health and Safety and implement agreed well-being strategies and initiatives.

The post-holder will have detailed knowledge of Health and Safety law, regulations, codes of practice and good practice. They will have general awareness of environmental issues in the workplace and potential overlaps with health and safety issues.  They will be required to hold a NEBOSH General Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety qualification or equivalent.
