About this job

UNISON Eastern is currently recruiting a fixed term Regional Learning & Development Organiser (RLDO) which will be funded by the Union Learning Fund and our national Fighting Fund. The post is currently a 9 month fixed term contract with the possibility of a further 3 month extension, subject to funding. The RLDO will be based in UNISON’s Eastern Region Bury St Edmunds Office but the job will require travelling across the Eastern region.

The Union Learning Fund project is aimed at recruiting and training Union Learning reps, to promote learning especially maths, English and digital skills to underrepresented groups; to support branches and employers to set up long term projects for supporting learners’ including apprentices and work with employers to achieve learning agreements. The successful candidate will identify and promote appropriate learning opportunities to work with UNISON members across the Eastern region. Our Fighting Fund aims to build our organising capacity and opportunities to work positively with employers.  The advent of the apprentice levy has made it more important than ever to build agreements with employers around apprentices and how they are engaged, managed and trained and what their career opportunities will be thereafter.  We also want opportunities to recruit and organise these apprentices to start them off within the union at the beginning of their careers.  A large part of the work will be focused on this.

You will support the development and delivery of a range of learning workshops and programmes relevant to personal development, skills for life development and the Union Learn Funds priorities, particularly supporting learning opportunities for apprentices.

The successful candidate will bring their experience and skills in working with apprentices, Lifelong Learning and/or within a trade union setting and understanding and appreciation of the link between learning and union organising. Experience and knowledge of the UNISON, UNISON’s Apprentices Charter and the Union Learning Fund in particular is desirable.

With knowledge of adult learning in its various forms, workplace and community, formal and informal, and with a strong understanding of union organising, you’ll have the experience to enable you to develop and manage learning opportunities for key target groups. You will be well organised with the ability to work in a team and able to take lead responsibility for projects.
