About this job

1 x Permanent – Ref ORE/7

1 x Fixed Term Contract until 31 March 2017 – Ref ORE/8T

As the leading public services trade union in the UK and biggest public service union in Europe, we’re committed to improving the working lives of our 1.3 million members. If you share that aim and have experience of supporting effective learner–centred education programmes relevant to an organising trade union, you can make a real contribution to our organisation. Learning and Organising Services currently have two Learning and Workforce Development Officer posts that we are seeking enthusiastic and motivated candidates to apply for.

You will support the development and delivery of a range of learning programmes relevant to personal development, skills development and union organising, to help ensure that UNISON members have the skills and confidence they need to participate in adult learning, union activity and community activity. That includes giving relevant professional educational support to union staff and lay members at all levels, from the UNISON Centre to regions and local branches, and working in partnership with employers and educational providers.

With knowledge of adult learning in its various forms, workplace and community, formal and informal, and with a strong understanding of union organising, you’ll have the experience to enable you to develop, deliver and manage learning opportunities for key target groups. You will be well organised with the ability to work in a team and able to take lead responsibility for projects. You will have excellent communications, time management and IT skills.  Most important, you’ll be committed to integrating our aims, values and policies into all areas of our learning and organising work.

Whilst the Learning and Workforce Development Officer post is a generic role, post holders will have areas where they will take lead responsibility. The Fixed Term post will take the lead on driving forward our functional skills programme and the permanent post will have lead responsibility for developing our e-learning programme and working with the Open University to support our partnership arrangements.

Travel across the UK with occasional weekend working and overnight stays will be required.
