The post involves working closely with UNISON branches, regional staff and solicitors to ensure that members, subject to scrutiny by their professional body, receive up to date, accurate guidance on procedures and deadlines.
The key priority is that you provide UNISON members with a high standard of representation at panel hearings and reviews. As a Professional Services Officer you will be responsible for ensuring that the member receives the best available advice on the merits of the case and how s/he responds to the allegations before the panel. You must be an able and experienced advocate who can present a case with an appreciation of how the professional body operates.
In addition to case preparation and presentation, the Professional Services Unit publishes guidance to members and regional staff. This information is supplemented by the Unit staff providing national and regional training courses.
UNISON’s Professional Services Unit is a leading player in liaising with other trade union and representative bodies to maintain a dialogue with the professional bodies to ensure fair and equitable treatment for our members and Unit members are expected to contribute.
The role of a Professional Services Officer is wide ranging and provides a valuable service to members and a high level of job satisfaction to the individual filling this post.
