About this job

UNISON is Britain’s biggest trade union for workers in the not-for-profit sector, with more than 65,000 members. Our members in housing associations are people working in housing management and providing social care. Our public services are under major threat. Our members are working under extreme pressure but are actively campaigning for services and jobs.

UNISON’s community sector is currently recruiting a Local Fighting Fund organiser to work as part of a small team to co-ordinate and lead the union’s organising agenda in housing associations across our northern regions.

The successful candidate will bring their experience and skills in one to one communications, recruitment, organising and campaigning.  To undertake this role you will need to be able to demonstrate experience and knowledge of the Trade Union and Labour movement and UNISON in housing associations and the social care sector in particular.

Previous experience as a recruiter, organiser and campaigner within a TU branch or within a similar organisation would also be desirable.  You will need to be able to travel widely within six regions and to London for meetings/training as required.

How to apply

To apply for this opportunity, please download and complete the area and local organiser application form and monitoring forms (under “Resources”) and see job description and person specification (under “Documents”).

Please send completed application forms together with the recruitment and disability monitoring forms to cvsector@unison.co.uk, quoting ref: BNE/BE/FF02.

UNISON activists applying for this post as a secondment opportunity must ensure in advance that they have confirmed arrangements and agreement from their employer.

Closing date for applications is Monday 14 September 2015.

Longlisted candidates will be notified by 17 September 2015.

An assessment day will be held on 24 September 2015 and successful candidates will be invited back for a formal interview on 29 September 2015. The assessment and interview will both take place at UNISON Centre, London, NW1.
