Finding out more about flexible working

The Trades Union Congress has a dedicated work-life balance website called Changing Times (www.tuc.org.uk/theme/index.cfm?theme=changingtimes) great deal of helpful information, the opportunity to sign up to a fortnightly newsletter and helpful publications.

The Government's Work-life balance campaign (www.dti.gov.uk/work-lifebalance) with information on case studies and funding opportunities.

Employers for work-life (www.employersforwork-lifebalance.org.uk) is an organisation founded by 22 employers, but now maintained by the Work Foundation with lots of useful information and answered questions.

The Work Foundation (theworkfoundation.com) itself has a dedicated work-life balance section. With an emphasis on the idea of time soverignty it has some helpful research and casesudies - many of which are derived from their work with the TUC.

New Ways to Work (www.new-ways.co.uk) are an experienced organisation that provides advice on flexible working options and have worked with UNISON to provide advice over a number of years.

Working Balance (www.workingbalance.co.uk) is a website full of tips, advice and feature articles on work-life balance issues within the public services. Also organise public sector conferences with frequent UNISON contributions.


Finding out more about parental rights

Daycare Trust (www.daycaretrust.org.uk) is a national childcare charity that promotes high quality affordable childcare for all. Having worked with UNISON to promote better provision, this website will help you find out more about childcare.

The Maternity Alliance (www.maternityalliance.org.uk) looks beyond birth at all aspects of pregnancy and new parenthood, and has worked with UNISON on a number of childcare projects.

The Parents at Work (www.parentsatwork.org.uk) site introduces their work and also offers sources of information and helpful advice. They have distinct Parents and Employers zones to the site.

The Women Returner's Network (www.women-returners.co.uk) is a research and lobbying organisation dealing with the specific issues important to working mothers.

Fathers Direct (www.fathersdirect.com) is a website where working fathers can gain helpful advice or share their experiences in their open forum.
